Differences between the BMW 310 GS BS6 Vs BMW 310R BS6
Pricing
The first thing that’s different between the two siblings is their price range. While the BMW G 310 R costs around ₹ 2,49985 on road, the BMW G 310 GS costs ₹ 2,89985 onwards on road. Having a massive 40000-45000 difference between the two depending on where you live.
Suspension
The G 310 GS is a motorcycle built for adventure touring and exploring, and thus, has a raised suspension. Both the front and the rear suspensions can travel 180 mm which can be very helpful when you need that extra cushioning on rough roads. The G 310 R, on the other hand, has at least 40 mm less travel on the suspension when compared to its sibling.
Tyres
While both the bikes have radials of the same width, the G 310 R has 17-inch rims while the G 310 GS gets a 19-inch front tyre and a 17-inch on the rear. The tyres are also a little bit taller on the GS.
ABS
Yes, both of these Bavarian beauties have ABS as a standard, the BMW G 310 GS has switchable ABS while the BMW G 310 R has a non-switchable variant.
Alternator
For the uninitiated, the Alternator charges your motorbike’s battery while you’re riding. Even though both of these bikes run on a 12 V/8Ah battery, the G 310 GS has a 308 Watt alternator while the G 310 R gets a slightly bigger 330 Watt one.
Chain
The G 310 R has an O-ring chain while the G 310 GS gets a Z-ring chain. It should also be noted that both of these models come with endless chains and shock damping rear wheel hubs.
Wheelbase
As mentioned earlier, the GS was built for touring an adventure and hence, receives a 1420 mm wheelbase to improve stability on rougher terrains while the G 310 R receives a 1370 mm wheelbase which is a better fit for city roads and better performance in traffic.
Dimensions
The GS, due to its long wheelbase and a bigger tyre, is 2075 mm longer and a good 880 mm wider than its R variant. While the seat height of the G 310 R is 785 mm, the GS receives a higher 835 mm height, but it must be noted that both of these seat heights may be adjusted.
Weight
And finally, because the BMW G 310 GS comes with some added features, it weighs 169.5 kgs which is a whopping 11 kgs heavier than the BMW G 310 R.
